Abstract

Indonesia has growth in all sectors, especially in construction sector. Many construction uses a lot of human resources which has the potential to work accidents. In 2014 in East Java there are 2,283 work accidents, which in 2017 jumped to 21,631 cases. To decrease the cases of work accidents, the government has obliging for anyone in the project environment to use personal protective equipment, but no everyone is obedient to use personal protective equipment and there is always an underlying factor. Therefore, this research aims to identify and analyze the factors that influence contractor workers in the use of personal protective equipment through the application of the Theory of Planned Behavior, using descriptive analysis (mean, standard deviation) and inferential analysis (confirmatory factor analysis) by the WarpPLS software. The results, it was found that: attitude is influenced by the comfort of personal protective equipment (mean = 4.581, factor loading = 0.878); subjective norms are influenced by appeals from associations (mean = 3.097) and encouragement from colleagues (factor loading = 0.968); perceptions of behavioral control are influenced by the availability of PPE and training (mean = 4.161) and socialization (factor loading = 0.814); intention of using PPE predicted by attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavior control by 57% (R2 = 0.57); and behavior is influenced by intention by 96% (β = 0.96).
